The carbon section of this filter is a two layer structure consisting of an overall carbon sheet plus 1 kgs of odour and gas absorbing carbon pellets. Every "Smokestop" filter contains coconut shell activated carbon impregnated with a 70/30 blend of Potassium Hydroxide (KOH) and Potassium Iodide (KI). This special carbon eliminates volatile organic compounds (VOC), which are responsible for many and various odours. Made of coconut shell charcoal*, these activated carbon granules will remove gaseous pollutants which are actually not particles but rather substances dissolved into the air. These include cigarette and cigar smoke or other VOCs (volatile organic compounds), including household paints and other chemicals. Granules, rather than compressed sheet carbon, offer a far greater surface area and therefore more effective adsorption levels of dissolved pollutants.
